Everyone is on a journey. Most journeys that change lives are hard, some perceivably harder than others. But we are all important, and all linked. Good things can happen when we acknowledge this.
Congratulations. You have all chosen to accept the “Call to Adventure” of your own self development by working with the Butterfly Model and Roy. This is an amazing experience, and can be a life changing 101 days. I have been working now for over 25 years and in all this time I have never before undergone a programme of self development that has fundamentally made me think about my purpose, my relationships, how I act and plan, and how I celebrate success and failures.
Over the last 6 months, myself and four of my colleagues have worked with Roy and been on a journey. As a team when we started we were in a mess. Our world in business had changed around us and we struggled to understand how we fitted in and add value. Through this programme we learnt about ourselves, how to choose our behaviours and understand our emotions. We learnt about how we form those relationships with the people we needed to, accepting that we all have our own opinions and beliefs. We are all unique and special if you think about it.
Through what was a really tough 101 days we challenged ourselves to be better because we wanted to be. However, we supported each other and through complete honesty learnt a lot about ourselves. At the end of the programme we did have a much clearer understanding of how we add value, our roles in business and our lives and, for me personally, confidence in myself. In fact, actions we took during the programme had impacts on the wider business and led to positive changes throughout the organisation. Feedback from colleagues was that they could see a positive difference in us individually and as a team.
This programme is relevant in education and business. What you learn over the next 3 months will be valuable for your future career paths whatever you choose them to be. Leadership whether that is of a team, a business or just yourself is critical. Having a vision of what you can be and then turning this into a purpose both motivates yourselves and others. Relationships are at the core of achieving everything. To be successful especially in business you need to understand how to build those relationships. How to find the touch points between yourself and others so that you all can be successful.
Learning – The business world, like the rest of our lives, is constantly evolving and to allow us to be fulfilled and successful we need to continue to learn. Being open to learning is what you will gain in the programme, which is also key in business. We can always learn and wisdom is our most valuable asset if used wisely. To top it off we need to be able to celebrate and achieve in business. Without this why would you or anyone else put the effort in? It’s important in business to recognise achievement. This can be small or big depending on your own and the businesses journey. Personally you have already achieved something by agreeing to take part in this journey.
Speaking of achievement, I am humbled that you are also raising awareness and money to support the education of young people in the “The Jungle” in Calais. By doing this and helping them get an education you are giving many of them purpose and the ability to achieve their dreams. Even though we are all unique we all share something and that is our ability to dream. Dreams can equal purpose which through learning, planning and action can result in achieving them.
I wish you all the best. It will be tough at times, but stick with it and you will see the benefits.
I look forward to hearing about how you get on.
